Tin Woodman

A wood chopper made of tin. Originally he was a normal Munchkin and in love with a young Munchkin girl who was enslaved by the Wicked Witch of the East. The witch caused him to have accidents with his ax, cutting off parts of his body. But he was able to be repaired by substituting tin parts for the parts the ax cut off. Eventually he became all tin without a heart, and therefore was unable to love anymore. Dorothy and the Scarecrow find him in a severely rusted condition and rescue him by oiling his joints. He then travels with them to seek a heart from the Wizard of Oz. In The Tin Woodman of Oz Dorothy learns that he was originally Nick Chopper, and meets the tinsmith who created him.
